RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. It's like email in that you get all your messages in one place, but it's different from email in that you get only what you send for. Right now it's mostly for blogs (like this site) and podcasts (internet radio shows). You open your RSS newsreader and get all the latest articles and podcasts from your favorite sites that you chose without having to go to each site individually. Cool, huh?
There are several services avalable, and some are free, such as the recent release of Google's Feedster service, and a few others. FeedDemon newsreader software is at www.bradsoft.com, and I believe it runs $29. There are other alternatives out there too.
Just copy http://www.autismvoice.com/blog/index.xml into the new channel wizard section and then download articles and podcasts. All the articles will appear.
For FeedDemon, Podcasts are found by clicking the paper clips.Click on a paper clip and something called "feed station" will open, asking you where you want the podcasts to land in your computer. Then it will download the podcast right away. To listen to the podcast, click tools, and "open feed station". Then double click on the podcast file.
For podcasts alone, you can download www.ipodder.net for free, and you can also get Autismvoice via itunes podcasts. Copy http://www.autismvoice.com/blog/Podcasts/index.xml and paste it into the "new feed" section. Then click "download". That's it.
For ipodder, It will download podcasts into your "my received podcasts" folder automatically.
You can find the podcasts you downloaded by clicking on "my computer", then "my documents", then "my received podcasts".
You can download the podcasts right into your ipod directly by using itunes. There may also be some other mp3 players that allow this very convenient function out there as well.
If you want to put the podcasts that you downloaded into your computer into your mp3 player, click on the software program for your player and follow the instructions. It's usually as easy as connect your player and turn it on, then click and drag, but be sure to follow your player's instructions.
